eRecA Protein (E.coli) is involved in the genetic recombination reactions, DNA repair and UV-induced mutagenesis. eRecA promotes the strand exchange of single-strand DNA fragments with homologous duplex DNA. The reaction has three distinct steps : (1) eRecA polymerizes on the single-strand DNA, (2) the nucleoprotein filament binds the duplex DNA and searches for a homologous region, (3) the strands are exchanged. eRecA is purified from E.coli strain carrying an over-expressed RecA gene.
