5'-3' Exonuclease (Exo53) catalyzes the removal of 5´ mononucleotides from duplex DNA (5' to 3´ exonuclease avtivity). Unlike lambda exonuclease, Exo53 degrades both 5´-phosphorylated and 5'-dephosphorylated double stranded DNA. Exo53 is unable to initiate DNA digestion at nicks or gaps. Exo53 is purified from E.coli strain containing gene of exonuclease domain of E.coli DNA pol I.
